“I realize [tennis] is a bit old-fashioned, he said. “The world has changed a lot these past 40 years. The way people consume sports, the way they consume videos have completely changed, and tennis has not.”
“We propose a new way to showcase tennis. Trying to bring much more emotion, trying to bring much more of a dynamic and modern show, and see if people are attracted to that more than tennis the way we know it.”
He also touched on his desire to speed up the sport to better adapt it to the modern age.
“I think the format of tennis is too long. There is too much downtime with not enough happening…the idea is to find the format of the future of tennis.”
It quite possibly could be the key to bringing in a new generation of fans and players excited for the proposed future.
Mouratoglou sat down with Paul Annacone at Tennis Channel Live (www.tennis.com) on June 5th to discuss the upcoming event and how it will change the game of tennis. Already bringing in top players like Stefanos Tsitsipas, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and David Goffin, the event is going to feature a new format in tennis, created by Mouratoglou and on the backs of his opinion that the game of tennis needs change.
